Glasgow Rangers are reportedly eyeing up a potential move to bring striker Josh Maja to Ibrox on a free transfer this summer.

The Lowdown: Morelos replacement?

Alfredo Morelos is set to leave Rangers this summer, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

The Gers reportedly held talks over signing Maja in 2020 when Morelos was close to leaving, and so could look to revisit a deal once the Colombia international departs this time around.

The Latest: Maja interest

As per Football Insider, Michael Beale’s side have a ‘genuine interest’ in Maja, who is out of contract at Ligue 2 side Bordeaux in France at the end of the season.

He is being ‘monitored’ by the Light Blues, with Ross Wilson leading their transfer plans, and is ‘highly regarded’ at the club.

Maja could come in as a replacement for Morelos, whose future is said to be in ‘major doubt’.

The Verdict: Shrewd business

Signing Maja on a free transfer would certainly be a shrewd piece of business from the Teddy Bears ahead of next season.

The striker has scored an impressive 12 goals and made a further three assists in total over all competitions so far this term, and also has notable experience in English football, including playing in the Premier League with Fulham (Transfermarkt).

At 24 years of age, Maja has not reached his full potential yet, and Rangers would also be landing a potentially sizeable resale asset should they sign him for free this summer.
